Testing is Over…Now What?

Well, I haven’t had a minute to post anything since we have spent the last month preparing for testing! Today, it was finished. The culmination of a year’s work, is now over. However, school is not, and Monday only comes too soon. We have three more weeks of school, and believe me, my students think that it is time only for fun and games.

My plan to keep them occupied in the next three weeks will be spending time focused on the expectations of the next grade. Instead of preparing for testing, I want to spend time preparing them for a successful future, in the next grade and beyond! I want my students to leave me with important life lessons that they can hold dear to their hearts when life gets tough. These next few weeks, it seems to me, may be the most important of the time with me, and I want to make the most of it.

My 7th grade Language Arts students are going to be reviewing themes of what we have read throughout the year. We are going to spend some extra time writing, gathering details from texts and comparing themes. We will really be getting ready for the next big step in learning, the 8th grade Writing Test! (Yes, another test) My 7th graders cannot pass the 8th grade without passing this milestone, so why not give them as much of a head start on it as possible?

So, my friends, I will still be busy in the next three weeks, but doing what I really love to do…TEACH! And although I can start them preparing for next year’s big test, the biggest test I can get them ready for is LIFE, and that’s what we will be getting ready for in a big way. 🙂

By the way..here are two movies that have great life lessons. They are old classics, but so much can be drawn from them They are great for the end of the year. If you are looking for a movie day at the end of the year, you can’t go wrong with either of these.

The Yearling (based on the book by Marjorie K. Rawlings) starring Gregory Peck and Jane Wyman

National Velvet (based on the book by Enid Bagnold) starring Elizabeth Taylor and Mickey Rooney
